I’ve been hearing a lot about Alzheimer’s disease. What exactly is it?
Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive, degenerative disease that attacks the brain and impairs memory, thinking and behavior. These impairments, which can be accompanied by physical decline, lead to an inability to function normally and, ultimately, to death. In fact, Alzheimer’s disease, which affects an estimated 4 million Americans, is the fourth leading cause of death among U.S. adults between the ages of 75 and 84.
